American Traveler is seeking a travel RN for a Med/Surg Tele position on a 7N Ortho/Uro/Neuro unit at a Level II Trauma facility, requiring at least 1 year of acute care experience and night shift availability.

Details

• Night shift position, 12-hour shifts from 1900–0730
• 29-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit specializing in Ortho/Uro/Neuro patients
• Patient population includes orthopedic trauma (fractures, joint replacements), vascular (fem-pop bypass, carotid endarterectomy, heparin drips), urology (TURP, TURBT, continuous bladder irrigation), neuro-spine (laminectomy, fusion, back pain), OB/GYN oncology, and acute medical admissions
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: days 1:4–5, nights 1:5–6
• Nursing Assistants are available on all shifts, though RN responsibilities for vitals and ADLs differ from the day shift model during the 1900–0700 timeframe
• Telemetry techs monitor all patients 24/7; RNs are not required to read their own rhythm strips
• RNs are required to titrate drips following a prescribed nomogram; common drips include heparin, nitroglycerin, bivalirudin, Cardizem, and insulin
• Respiratory therapy support is available on unit; equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen therapy — no ventilators
• Charge nurse present on all shifts and takes a patient assignment; house supervisor available on all shifts
• Floating required to other adult medical/surgical units
• Every other weekend required
• Every other holiday required
• No on-call or standby requirements
• EMR: Cerner (transitioning to Epic)
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active WI or Compact RN license required by start date
• Current BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 1–2 years of acute care nursing experience required
• No BSN required
• 2 references required for consideration: 1 from a supervisor within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 from a peer or supervisor within the last 3 years of relevant experience

Additional Information

• Candidates who have previously worked at this facility as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their consideration date
• Orientation consists of 1 day of computer training followed by 1–2 days of precepted floor orientation
• Block scheduling is used; no self-scheduling
• Any color scrubs are acceptable; must be clean and professional
• Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and may be subject to a reduced travel pay rate
• All staff are required to clock in and out at the facility
