American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level I Trauma Emergency Department position requiring at least 2 years of experience, active NE or Compact RN license, and the ability to work 12-hour night shifts.

Details

• Acute care hospital Emergency Department setting, designated as a Level I Trauma Center, Pediatric Certified by State, and Comprehensive Stroke Center
• Department features 20 main beds, 5 trauma bays, 10 OBS beds, hallway beds, a 6-bed Fast Track area, and 3 triage beds
• Patient population includes trauma, sepsis, chest pain, shortness of breath, and stroke (TPA administration)
• Patient ratios: 1:4 in main zones, 1:6 in Fast Track, 1:5 in OBS, and 1:1 for ICU/trauma patients
• Common drips include all drips typically seen in a Level I trauma ED
• RNs are required to read and interpret their own telemetry strips
• EMR: Epic
• 12-hour night shifts; available shift windows include 0700-1900, 0900-2100, 1100-2300, 1500-0300, and 1900-0700 — scheduling is determined by leadership
• Weekend and holiday coverage requirements vary based on department needs
• Floating required to the OBS unit and a freestanding ER at least once per week
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• ED experience in a Level I Trauma Center required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS; all must be active at time of consideration — pending certifications are not accepted
• NRP certification preferred
• Epic EMR experience
• Driver's license required for consideration and is used to verify permanent address
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered

Additional Information

• ED is staffed with both physicians and mid-level providers, a charge nurse on every shift, and nurse aides/EMTs/paramedics (1:10 ratio in OBS, 1:20 in main ED) and in-house security 24/7
• Orientation consists of approximately 1 week of onboarding: 2 shifts at the main campus and 1 shift at the freestanding location
• A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered on the Friday of orientation; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass — failure results in contract termination
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination
• Fast-paced, high-acuity environment
• RTO must be declared upfront; a maximum of 7 days per 13-week contract will be approved — no additional RTO will be granted after consideration
