American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Adult Psychiatric unit in Asheville, NC, requiring at least 2 years of experience and CPI certification for night shift work.

Details

• Position is located on a 23-bed inpatient adult psychiatric unit on the sixth floor of the Saint Joseph Campus (Copestone building)
• Night shift hours are 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
• Patient ratios range from 5 to 8 patients per RN
• Night shift team consists of 3 RNs and 3 Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs), with sitters assigned as needed
• Unit handles a high-volume, fast-paced environment with up to 10 admissions and discharges per day
• Common procedures include psychiatric emergency responses, aggressive patient management, rapid response, Code Blue, blood draws, IV therapy, and wound care
• Equipment used includes vital sign machines, glucometers, IV supplies, oxygen, code cart, and bladder scanner
• EMR system is Cerner
• Weekend shifts are required; no on-call responsibilities
• Floating to other inpatient adult units and the geriatric unit is required

Requirements

• Active NC RN license or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience in behavioral health or psychiatry
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA or ARC accepted) and CPI — SAMA, MAB, or ACPMA may be accepted in lieu of CPI based on facility review
• Certifications must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start
• Strong ability to manage aggressive patients, with demonstrated critical thinking, patience, compassion, and time management skills
• Behavioral health experience with diverse populations (adult, adolescent, geriatric) is preferred
• US SSN and date of birth required for consideration — Canadian SSNs are not accepted
• One professional reference required (candidates from Florida or Missouri must provide two references)
• No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months

Additional Information

• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible for this position
• Respond to psychiatric emergencies including aggressive patient situations, rapid response events, and Code Blue activations
• Provide nursing care including IV therapy and wound care in addition to behavioral health interventions
• Scrub color requirement: navy blue; white top with navy pants or all-white attire also accepted
• 13-week contract
