American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a high-acuity Emergency Department position at a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma academic medical center in Madison, WI, requiring prior travel experience and at least 2 years of ED experience with both adult and pediatric populations.

Details

• Large, 58-bed combined adult and pediatric Emergency Department treating over 60,000 patients per year
• Patient population spans pediatrics through adults, including urgent and emergent cases across trauma, cardiac, stroke, burn, and psychiatric presentations
• Comprehensive subspecialty access including Level I trauma care, cardiac catheterization, acute stroke care, burn center, ECMO/ECPR program, and operative procedures
• Department coordinates care with ground ambulances and Med Flight for critically ill and injured patients
• Evening and night shifts available: 1500–0330 (Eve) or 1900–0730 (Nights), with 12-hour shifts and occasional 8-hour shifts as needed
• Weekend and holiday rotation required (up to 1 holiday off may be accommodated)
• Travelers are first to float and may be assigned to multiple units or locations within the organization based on staffing needs; if the primary department no longer has a need, shifts will be reassigned to another department
• Epic EMR required; experience within the past 12 months preferred
• Telemetry competency exam must be passed prior to start

Requirements

• Active WI RN license or compact RN license from permanent address state, must be in hand at time of consideration
• Current AHA-issued BLS, ACLS, and PALS required
• TNCC certification required
• Minimum 2 years of high-acuity Emergency Department experience with adult and pediatric populations within the last 3 years
• Experience in an academic Level I Trauma Center or similarly sized high-acuity facility required; Level II Trauma Center experience required at minimum
• Prior travel nursing experience required — at least one completed 13-week contract
• Epic EMR experience required
• Basic arrhythmia interpretation experience required; must pass a telemetry competency exam (adult and pediatric) prior to start
• Experience in a 40+ bed ED preferred
• ECMO/ECPR experience preferred

• Candidate's permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
• Prior travel experience is required — candidates without at least one completed 13-week travel contract will not be considered
• Telemetry exam includes both adult and pediatric components; candidates must pass with 80% or higher, with 100% identification of lethal rhythms on the adult exam — candidates have two attempts to pass before the assignment may be cancelled
• RTO is generally limited to no more than 2 weeks per contract; requests exceeding 1 consecutive week may result in a contract extension
• Orientation is typically approximately one week and is held every other week; travelers should follow the start date and schedule provided in their welcome letter
• Parking on-site requires a permit through UW Transportation; alternative options include bus, park & ride, and private parking
