American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg travel position requiring a valid CA RN license, Cerner and Epic EMR experience, and a background in community and LTAC settings.

Details

• Night shift position, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (3x12-hour shifts)
• Shifts include weekdays and weekends
• 13-week contract
• Med/Surg unit in a community hospital setting
• Patient ratio of 1:5
• Work settings include Med/Surg, telemetry, and short-stay (23-hour) unit
• Clinical procedures include cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry (on-unit and remote), and use of rapid response/code teams
• Cardiovascular care includes post-angiogram, post-cardiac surgery, and post-MI patients
• Endocrine and metabolic care includes IV insulin protocols and thyroidectomy
• GI care includes bariatric surgery, bowel obstruction, colostomy/ileostomy management, and feeding tube care
• GU/renal care includes continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), pre/post hemodialysis management, and renal failure
• IV therapy skills include port access and management, blood product administration, central line blood draws, PICC line management, phlebotomy, and peripheral line care
• Medication management includes heparin, insulin, PCA, and non-titrated cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Neurological/psych care includes CVA, mood disorders, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, substance withdrawal, and TBI
• Oncology responsibilities include administration and monitoring of chemotherapy
• Orthopedic care includes ortho trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, and total joint replacement
• Respiratory care includes chest tubes, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, tracheostomy care, and pre/post thoracic surgery
• Additional skills include wound care/wound vac, isolation precautions/PPE, and surgical drain management
• Cerner charting experience required; Epic experience also required
• No blocked or self-scheduling

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required in-hand at time of consideration (EMSA license not accepted)
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required in-hand at time of consideration
• CPI Blue Card (from the Crisis Prevention Institute) required in-hand; MAB or online CPI certifications are not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Community hospital experience required
• LTAC experience required
• Cerner EMR experience required, documented in work history
• Epic EMR experience required, documented in work history
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation required
• Two supervisory references required for consideration
• Must pass a pass/fail EKG exam (3 attempts allowed)
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this position

• Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
• Candidates who have previously worked at this health system must have been away for a minimum of 1 year before returning as a traveler
• No RTO within the first two weeks of the assignment; a maximum of 7 days RTO per 13-week contract is highly preferred
• All RTO must be submitted at the time of application and cannot be changed after the profile is under review
• Orientation includes completion of self-reported online modules, averaging 4–8 hours depending on specialty
• Manager may or may not conduct an interview; candidates must be comfortable with either outcome
