American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Psychiatric Unit position in an acute care setting, requiring a ND or compact RN license and strong de-escalation skills.

Details

• Work in a locked, acute care psychiatric unit with 25 licensed beds (currently utilizing 3 adult and 6 adolescent beds)
• Serve both adolescent and adult patients with diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse, psychosis, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 3:1 (adult, may have up to 7 patients) and 6:1 (adolescent)
• Shifts are 12 hours, with self-scheduling and block options when available; weekend and holiday work is required every other with first-to-float policy
• May float throughout the hospital as needed for 1:1 assignments or support
• Uses Epic for charting; Epic experience preferred
• Mechanical restraints and seclusion may be used rarely
• Mental health techs and occupational therapy support available; RT in house with oxygen support as needed
• Dress code is any color except maroon or business casual

Requirements

• Active ND or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration
• Current BLS certification required
• CHI Health Workplace Violence Prevention certification required; CPI preferred
• Minimum of 2 years of RN experience in acute/inpatient, hospital, or psychiatric settings
• Strong de-escalation and communication skills required
• Experience with adolescents preferred
• Must provide 2 references: one supervisor from the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the past 3 years
• Must submit a copy of driver’s license
• Candidates may not have been directly employed by any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
• Must live at least 50 miles from the facility

Additional Information

• Nurses are expected to actively participate in direct patient care and 15-minute rounds
• Not expected to serve in a charge role
• Only child/adolescent inpatient psychiatric unit in the region
• Emergency buttons, in-hospital security, and code response systems are in place for safety
• First time travelers are welcome to apply
• Expect a supportive interdisciplinary team including mental health techs, OT, social work, and RT
• Two 12-hour unit-specific orientation shifts provided
• Patience and a calm demeanor are important for success in this unit
• Holiday coverage is required for every other holiday
• Requested time off must be provided upfront (maximum 7 days per 13-week contract); additional RTO will not be approved
