American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Emergency Department position in Minnesota requiring critical access ED experience and current certification in ACLS, BLS, TNCC, and either ENPC or PALS.

• Work in a 10-bed Emergency Department with 2 trauma bays in an acute care setting
• Provides care for patients of all ages, including newborn through geriatric, for respiratory, cardiac, trauma, and stroke cases
• Level IV trauma and stroke ready designation; STEMI receiving center
• Patient assignment typically 1:3 based on acuity
• No Fast Track; separate triage room with requirement for competent triage skills
• One locked seclusion room for psych holds within the unit
• No in-house security; responsibility for de-escalation and use of local police for emergencies
• ER sees 25-30 patients per day on average
• Common drips include norepinephrine, nitroglycerin, heparin, amiodarone, and propofol
• One ED provider (MD, DO, or PA) on site 24/7
• CNA/Tech support from 1400-2230 for prep, transport, VS, EKGs, swabs, and splinting
• Respiratory therapy available during days and on call at night; RNs initiate respiratory equipment as needed
• RNs required to read their own cardiac strips; uses Phillips monitors
• No monitor techs in unit
• Assists with patient transport to CT for all stroke activations
• ER and lab both draw blood samples
• 12-hour night shifts, Friday through Sunday 1900-0700, with scheduling in 6-week blocks and no immediate day-to-night turnaround
• Every other weekend and every other holiday coverage required
• No call or floating required

Requirements

• Active MN RN license (no pending licenses accepted)
• Minimum 2 years of recent Emergency Department experience; Critical Access experience strongly preferred
• Current ACLS, BLS, TNCC, and either ENPC or PALS certifications
• Proven ability to work independently, learn quickly, and function without significant ancillary resources
• Competent in triage skills
• Ability to interpret telemetry independently
• Experience with EPIC EMR preferred or required
• References required: One supervisor from the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the past 3 years
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• May not have been employed by CommonSpirit, CHI or Dignity in any capacity within the past year

Additional Information

• RNs are responsible for initiating and managing respiratory equipment with RT verbal assistance as needed
• Must be prepared to provide care for all patient populations and respond to a wide spectrum of emergencies and acuity levels
• Required to attend CT scans for all stroke activations
• Must exhibit professional appearance—no specific scrub color required
• No charge nurse on shift; support from 1 provider and tech as scheduled
• Professional demeanor and effective team communication are essential
• Orientation will last up to 4 unit-specific shifts or until competency is achieved
• Requested time off must be submitted up front; no additional RTO will be approved after assignment confirmation
