American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med Surg/IMC/Tele position on a heavy cardiac unit with night shifts and strong cardiac and telemetry skills required.

Details

• Work in an acute care hospital on the 6N Med Surg/IMC/Tele unit
• 28-bed unit with up to 75% cardiac patients, including pre/post caths, pre CABG, chest pain, NSTEMIs, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, diabetes, nephrology, hematology, dialysis, wounds, and overflow strokes
• Nurse-to-patient ratios average 1:5 during days/evenings and 1:5–7 on nights (typically 6, must be comfortable with up to 7)
• Unit uses telemetry monitors with 24/7 tele tech support; nurses can check own monitor strips as needed
• Expected to titrate drips including insulin, heparin, nitro, diltiazem, and lasix
• Equipment used includes CPAP, BiPAP, high flow oxygen, vapotherm, nebulizers, and chest PT (no vents)
• Uses Cerner EMR (transitioning to Epic); relevant experience preferred
• Schedule consists of four 12-hour night shifts per week with every other weekend (Friday–Sunday) and holiday required
• Floating to other Med/Surg units is required and may extend outside the cluster for 1:1 observation needs

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license required by start date
• Minimum 1 year of Telemetry, IMC, or Stepdown RN experience
• Heavy cardiac background and drip titration experience required
• Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Strong communication, teamwork, and work ethic
• Two professional references required: one supervisor reference from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from the last 3 years in a relevant specialty
• Former permanent staff must have at least 6 months separation before being considered for hire

Additional Information

• Nurses are expected to perform rhythm monitoring, titrate cardiac drips, and care for a diverse, mostly cardiac, patient population
• Charge nurses provide support and take lighter assignments for oversight duties
• Nurse aides support the unit with average ratios of 1:9 days/evenings and 1:14 on nights if fully staffed
• Agency staff are not placed on call; schedule blocks are in 4-hour increments with possible reallocation if staffing allows
• No self-scheduling; block scheduling requests are considered but not guaranteed
• Unit orientation consists of one 12-hour off-unit and one 12-hour on-unit shift
• Clean, professional scrubs in any color are acceptable
• Clocking in and out at the facility is required
• Candidates within 80 miles are considered local and subject to local pay rates
