American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU assignment requiring Level I trauma and strong IV skills in an acute care setting.

Details

• Position is based in a 24-bed Cardiovascular ICU (CTICU/CVICU) within an acute care hospital
• Handles cardiac surgery recovery, transplant, thoracic, and high-acuity critical patients
• Patient ratios are 1:1 to 1:2, with a high number of 1:1 assignments
• Utilizes Cerner EMR and Philips telemetry monitoring equipment
• 12-hour night shifts, 7pm-7am, with three weekend shifts in each four-week schedule
• Holidays are worked into rotation according to unit coverage
• Requires floating to other ICUs and all telemetry units, with patient ratios up to 4:1 on telemetry
• Travelers may be floated to Westgate campus as required
• Two days of floor-specific orientation provided
• No IV team; strong IV skills are essential
• Intensivist available on days and on call at night, with 24/7 RT and pharmacy support

Requirements

• Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of consideration
• Minimum two years of recent ICU experience, Level I trauma experience required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; CCRN preferred
• Proven experience with cardiac surgical recovery, IABP, CRRT, ECMO, and common bedside procedures preferred
• Must successfully pass a dysrhythmia (Relias) exam prior to acceptance, with two attempts permitted
• Must pass a SIMs Lab skills check on day one for sterile technique with Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
• Requires strong IV skills and ability to manage high-acuity patients independently
• Drivers must have their own vehicle
• Natural hair color required and no facial piercings; men must be clean shaven for fit testing
• Must provide 2 professional references: one supervisor reference from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from the last 3 years
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (permanent address verified by driver's license)
• No direct employment (FT, PT, PRN) with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity in the past year

Additional Information

• Expect high-acuity patient management including bedside procedures such as bronchoscopy, Swan-Ganz catheterization, epidural, and central line dressing changes
• Responsibilities include care for cardiac surgeries, advanced device support such as IABP and ECMO, and transplant patients
• Navy scrubs are required
• SIMs Lab is pass/fail and competency in sterile technique is mandatory for continued assignment
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply if minimum requirements are met
• Holiday coverage is required as per unit rotation
• Travelers will float first before permanent staff when census requires
• Travelers who fail skills or exam requirements after two attempts will not be eligible with the health system for six months
