Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center requiring a NC or compact license and strong MST background.

Details

• Work in a 29-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a teaching hospital
• Patient population includes general medicine cases such as diabetes, GI, respiratory, renal, wounds, and patients with chest tubes or trachs
• Typical RN patient ratio is 1:5-6
• Shift starts at 1830 with every other weekend rotation required
• Holiday coverage required for at least 75% of holidays
• Floating to other Med/Surg units may be required
• Centralized telemetry monitoring is utilized
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg Tele experience
• Ability to independently manage chest tubes, trachs, PIV starts, drains, PCA pumps, and gtts including Amiodarone, Fentanyl, Ketamine, and Heparin
• Experience reading telemetry strips
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work in moderate to high stress environments

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include direct and indirect patient care, wound care, lab draws, and management of acute medical conditions
• Support staff includes CNA, receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy, rapid response team, RT, hospitalist, and intensivist available 24/7
• Department offers 2 days of specialized orientation in addition to facility orientation
• Dress code requires royal blue scrubs

• First-time travelers may be considered if they have a strong MST background
