American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU position caring for a varied acuity patient population, with Epic experience and a SD or compact RN license required.

• Position is in a Medical unit within a hospital progressive care setting
• Patient population includes a mix of Med/Surg, intermediate care, and long length of stay patients
• Common cases include DKA, pre- and post-surgical, cellulitis, UTIs, pneumonia, COPD, CHF, renal and hepatic failure, GI disorders, soft tissue injuries, minor fractures, DVTs, and CVA overflow
• Nurses manage telemetry monitoring, vasoactive drip titrations, wound care, IV, central line, and drain/tube management
• Patient ratios: 1:5–6 in Med/Surg, 1:5 in Med/Surg Tele, and 1:4 in Intermediate Care
• Unit capacity is 36–48 beds with semi-private room flexibility
• 12-hour day shifts required, with potential rotation for up to 4 of 6 weekends
• Floating to any adult inpatient unit, including Med Surg, Ortho/Neuro, Heart and Vascular, Oncology, and Observation, within scope of practice
• Uses Epic EMR (required), Omnicell, and Alaris equipment
• No mandatory call requirements

Requirements

• Active RN license (South Dakota or compact) required
• Completion of an approved nursing education program
• Minimum 1 year of PCU RN experience required
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• EPIC experience required for first-time travelers
• Strong skills in cardiac strip interpretation, wound care, line and tube management, and drip titration (Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Levophed, and other antihypertensives)
• Must be comfortable taking Med/Surg assignments
• Applicants must live at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility

Additional Information

• Primary responsibilities include administering a variety of medication routes, titrating specified drips, performing wound care, and managing lines, drains, and tubes
• Support staff includes CNAs, a charge nurse without a patient load, phlebotomy, RT, and onsite hospitalist
• Orientation includes two days of department and classroom training plus two precepted shifts
• Unit is a teaching environment with potential to work alongside students
• Compliance with monthly pain scoring audits (90% compliance required)
• Dress code is navy blue scrubs
• Free parking is provided onsite
• No time off is allowed annually during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally blackout dates (early to mid-August)
• Holiday time off requests require manager approval and are typically not granted for winter holidays
• Up to a week and a half of time off may be approved for other dates
• First-time travelers are accepted if they meet experience and EPIC requirements
• Permanent staff must wait one year before returning as travelers
• No local travelers within a 100-mile radius are accepted
