American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a day shift PCU/Telemetry position with a focus on post-cardiac surgical care and Epic EMR proficiency.

Details

• Position is based in a Progressive Care Unit within an academic Level 1 Trauma Center
• Unit has 22 beds and an average census of 21
• Serves adult cardiac and post-cardiothoracic surgical patients including CABG, valve repair/replacement, LVADs, heart transplant, AAA repair, carotids, and thoracic outlet cases
• Patient ratio ranges from 1:3 to 1:5, depending on acuity
• Required to work 12-hour day shifts (0700-1900), with 3 or 4 shifts per week
• Every other weekend coverage is required
• Will work 75% of holidays
• Floating occurs within the cardiology division first, then to any med-surg unit within the hospital
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Philips monitors, and unit-specific equipment such as Zoll and bladder scanner

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license
• Minimum 1 year of PCU, Telemetry, or cardiac post-procedural experience required
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Experience with cardiac rhythm interpretation and titrating/non-titrating cardiac drips required
• Previous experience with the listed advanced cardiac cases (CABG, valve repair/replacement, LVAD, heart transplant, AAA repair, carotids, thoracic outlet) required
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• PCCN certification preferred
• First-time travelers accepted if experienced in cardiothoracic surgery

• Duties include caring for complex cardiac and post-surgical patients and interpreting telemetry strips
• Support staff includes CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, phlebotomy, 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
• Rapid Response Team available in-house
• Two-day departmental orientation and required facility orientation provided
