Description

American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg Float Pool RN with at least 5 years of experience, ACLS/BLS certification, and a WV or compact RN license for a night shift position.

Details

• Work in a hospital acute care setting as part of the float pool
• Float between multiple units of varying acuity, including CCU, IMC, Med/Surg, Skilled Care, and occasionally ED if within skillset
• Telemetry unit; patients include those with cardiac, respiratory, and complex medical diagnoses such as NSTEMI, pneumonia, sepsis, diabetes, heart disease, and diverticulitis
• Patient ratios vary by unit: CCU 1:2-3, IMC 1:4-6, MS 1:5-8, Skilled Care 1:8-10
• 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required
• Self-scheduling is offered but flexibility is required to help cover gaps
• Uses Cerner EMR
• One-day orientation and one day with preceptor provided
• Navy blue scrubs required

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license
• Minimum 5 years of RN experience required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Ability to float between units and work with various patient acuities
• Experience in ICU or ED preferred
• Ability to titrate drips if working in CCU or ED
• Comfortable with nurse:patient ratios ranging from 1:2 to 1:10
• Proficient at reading and interpreting telemetry strips
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• Must submit an unexpired driver’s license for consideration

Additional Information

• Primary responsibilities include providing comprehensive nursing care, monitoring telemetry, performing ADLs and vitals, administering blood sugars, and troubleshooting respiratory equipment
• Nurses may float to lower acuity units depending on experience and unit needs
• Monitor tech available 24/7 but nurses are responsible for printing and interpreting strips
• Charge nurses may take patient assignments
• Nurse aides/techs assist with high ratios
• May be included in the holiday rotation, split between groups
• No on-call requirement
• Returning travelers must have a 2-year break from any WVU Medicine location to be eligible
• Cumulative travel experience within WVU Medicine is limited to one year before a mandatory 2-year break
