American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute position in Illinois, requiring prior neuro unit and Level 1 trauma experience.

Details

• Position located in an acute care Neuro Med-Surg unit
• 54-bed unit with a nurse to patient ratio of 1:5-6 on night shifts
• Night shift schedule working 12-hour shifts (1900-0700) with every other weekend and holiday rotation
• Patient populations include stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and some medical overflow
• Responsible for titrating heparin drips and other neuroscience cases
• Use of Epic EMR and Phillips telemetry monitors, with no requirement to read own strips
• Floating required in rotation with staff, with assignments based on competency
• No specific scrub color required; tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings allowed

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required at the time of consideration
• Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum of 1 year of RN experience
• Prior travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
• Previous dedicated neuro unit experience is mandatory
• Experience caring for patients in a Level 1 trauma setting required
• Heparin titration experience required
• COVID-19 vaccination is not required

• Comprehensive orientation includes 2 days of unit-specific and computer-based training with an educator and preceptor support
• Charge nurse and house supervisor available 24/7 with support staff including nurse aides present across all shifts
• High flow oxygen used rarely for stable COVID patients
• Holiday and weekend coverage is required as part of the rotation
• Local rate applies for candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility
