American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring a SD or compact RN license and strong cardiac procedural recovery skills.

Details

• Work in a mixed acuity PCU setting with 44 beds
• Patient population includes intermediate care, telemetry, and MedSurg with cases such as direct admits, ED admits, post Cath Lab, MI (NSTEMI & STEMI), CHF, dysrhythmia management, pacemaker malfunction, and backup stroke unit
• Care for step-down patients including post cardiac/vascular, post-cardiac cath, post open heart surgery, post TAVR, post EP studies, post pacemaker insertion
• RN-to-patient ratio is typically 1:4, can be 1:3 depending on acuity
• 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend and every other holiday required
• Epic EMR is used; experience preferred but not required with manager approval
• Required to float to General PCU, MS/Tele, or ICU for PCU-level patients as needed
• Support staff includes CNAs, charge nurse, phlebotomy services, tele tech, respiratory therapy, and hospitalist coverage

Requirements

• Active SD or compact RN license
• Completion of a board-approved nursing education program
• At least 1.5 years of general nursing experience, with 1 year specific to PCU
• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Experience in cardiac procedural recovery including CABG/TAVR/post cardiac cath and titratable cardiac/vasoactive drips (Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Levo, Dopamine); manager approval needed if lacking
• Proficient in cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tube management, and MI pharmacology
• Must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
• Permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
• First-time travelers accepted if they have at least 2 years of experience

Additional Information

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to care for patients with complex cardiac, neuro, and medical conditions
• Two partial days of facility and three 12-hour shifts of unit orientation provided
• Scrub color is navy blue
• No on-call requirements
• Up to 7 days of time off allowed; if a full week is taken, extension is required
• No time off permitted during the first three weeks of August each year
