American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) role requiring intermediate cardiac care skills and a SD or compact RN license.

Details

• Position is in a PCU (step-down) unit with mixed acuity including Intermediate Care, Telemetry, and Medical-Surgical patient populations
• Unit has 44 beds and RN-to-patient ratios are typically 1:4, can be 1:3 depending on acuity
• Care includes direct admits, ED admits, post-cardiac and vascular procedures, post-cath lab, post-open heart, post-TAVR, post-EP studies, and medical overflow
• Backup Stroke unit with experience managing MI, CHF, dysrhythmias, pacemaker malfunction, and post-interventional cardiac procedures
• 12-hour day shifts with every other weekend and every other holiday required
• No on-call responsibilities
• Floating required to sister General PCU, MS/Tele, or ICU within scope for PCU-level patients
• Epic charting system is used and experience is preferred; Alaris and Omnicell equipment in unit
• Comprehensive support with unassigned charge nurse, CNA, phlebotomy, respiratory therapist, and hospitalist coverage

Requirements

• Active RN license in South Dakota or compact state is required
• Completion of an approved nursing education program
• BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
• At least 1.5 years of general RN experience with a minimum of 1 year in a PCU/step-down setting
• Experience with cardiac procedural recovery (CABG, TAVR, cardiac cath), MI pharmacology, titratable cardiac/vasoactive gtts, heparin drips, and cardiac rhythm interpretation required
• Chest tube management and TNK administration preferred
• Epic experience preferred; candidates without Epic experience require manager approval
• Only candidates residing at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility will be considered
• First-time travelers accepted only with at least 2 years of experience
• Permanent staff must wait one full year before being eligible to return as a traveler

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include caring for mixed acuity step-down, telemetry, and post-cardiac intervention patients
• Team includes float charge nurse, CNAs, phlebotomy, RT, and tele tech for monitoring support
• Two partial days of facility education and three 12-hour orientation shifts on the unit provided
• Up to 7 days of approved time off allowed; no time off first 3 weeks of August annually
• Unit utilizes navy blue scrubs
