American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Telemetry position requiring a GA or compact RN license, with strong step-down and critical care skills.

Details

• Work in a 10-bed Progressive Care Unit with a census of 10 patients
• Level 1 trauma, teaching hospital and chest pain/stroke center environment
• Typical diagnoses include respiratory failure, sepsis, renal failure, GI bleed, DKA, stroke, pneumonia, ARDS, hypotension, hypertension, and overdose
• Ratio of 1 RN to 3-4 patients, supported by CNAs, unit secretary, and resource team
• Care for step-down ICU and ER admission patients, including those with chronic home ventilators
• Required to float to other PCU units as needed
• Twelve-hour night shifts from 7p-7a on a 6-week rotating schedule
• Weekend rotation includes 5-6 weekend shifts out of 12 in each cycle
• Expected to work 75% of major holidays
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• Utilizes Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis, Philips monitors, and specialized equipment

Requirements

• Active GA or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of recent PCU RN experience
• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Must pass an EKG competency exam
• Proficiency in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucommander, insulin and heparin drips
• Experience with invasive lines and assisting bedside procedures such as chest tubes and tracheostomies
• Epic EMR experience strongly preferred
• CCRN certification preferred but not required
• First-time travelers will be considered

• Responsibilities include managing high-acuity step-down patients and assisting in complex bedside procedures
• Supportive team environment with CNAs, charge nurse, 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
• One day of hospital orientation plus two days of departmental orientation provided
• Navy scrubs required for RNs
