American Traveler is seeking an experienced Surgical Oncology RN for an Intermediate Care Unit (IMC) position requiring an active OR license and recent oncology experience.

Details

• Work in a short-term acute care hospital within a Magnet, Level I Trauma, and teaching environment
• Intermediate Care Unit specializing in surgical oncology cases
• Primary patient population includes gastrointestinal, gynecological, thyroid, ENT, thoracic, leukemia/lymphoma, and end-of-life oncology patients
• Ratios range from 1:1 to 1:4 depending on acuity
• Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 19:00 to 07:00)
• Requirement to work four weekend shifts per month
• No on-call responsibilities
• Clinician may float within Acute Care/IMC and to an affiliate hospital as needed
• Special equipment used includes chest tubes, trachs, epidurals, PCA, feeding tubes, JP/Blake drains, suction, central lines, ostomy appliances, and wound vacs
• Special procedures performed include Whipple, liver resection, hepatic arterial infusion pump, esophagectomy, VATS, laryngectomy, TORS, TAH/BSO, colectomy, pain management, and chemotherapy administration
• Epic EMR is used; experience is preferred but not required

Requirements

• Active OR RN license or a pending license with proof of application submitted to the licensing board
• Minimum of 1 year recent medical oncology nursing experience required
• Current BLS certification required
• Epic experience preferred but not required
• COVID-19 vaccination proof required with no exemptions allowed
• Two manager or supervisor references from within the last 24 months required for consideration
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate
• Applicants who are return staff must have a 6-month break between assignments as a traveler

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include caring for post-surgical oncology patients involving complex procedures and pain management
• Dress code allows any solid color scrubs (no prints), which are provided for staff
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Holiday coverage may be required as per department staffing needs
• No maximum distance or radius requirement for local candidates
• Time off requests must be submitted at time of application and are limited to five days for a 13-week contract, or seven days for 18 weeks; additional days must extend the contract
