American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Surgical Specialty Med/Surg position requiring prior acute care surgical floor and step down experience.

Details

• Work in a hospital-based post-surgical Med/Surg unit
• Care for post-operative patients, including those with new drains, wounds, trachs, ostomies, NGTs, and DHTs
• Some patients require step down care levels
• Patient ratios are 5-6:1 for surgical patients and 3-4:1 in step down care
• Night shift schedule with 12-hour shifts, three shifts per week
• No operating room (OR) responsibilities; OR nurses not considered

Requirements

• Active OK or Compact RN license required
• Minimum of 1 year recent acute care surgical floor experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Step down unit experience required
• Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association required
• Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program required; BSN preferred
• Strong clinical skills in caring for post-surgical patients with drains, trachs, ostomies, and similar interventions
• Some computer skills are required
• Good verbal and written communication skills required
• Applicants must live more than 50 miles from the facility

Additional Information

• Manage care for an assigned group of post-surgical patients from admission through discharge
• Monitor and document patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed treatments
• Administer medications, monitor IV infusions, and support minor diagnostic procedures
• Collaborate with physicians, patients, and families on care planning and discharge education
• Delegation of tasks to support staff is expected
• Work as part of a team to provide high-quality patient care
• ENT and/or transplant experience is preferred
• Previous OR nurses are not eligible for this position
• Candidates must commit to assigned shifts and adhere to dress code and hospital policies
