American Traveler seeks an experienced RN for a night Psychiatric position in an acute CPEP unit with NY RN license and de-escalation skills required.

Details

• Work in an acute Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) unit
• Unit has 40 beds divided between 30 adult and 20 child/adolescent beds, with assignment in both areas
• Patient population includes individuals with severe mental illness and behavioral issues such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, and trauma-related conditions
• Nurse-to-patient ratios range from 1:6 to 1:12 depending on acuity
• Scheduling is determined by unit needs and does not allow block scheduling; nights with 12-hour shifts
• Every other weekend work required
• Travelers are first to float and may be assigned to any adult or adolescent psych unit; orientation includes shifts in inpatient psych, LRC, CPEP, and Detox
• Royal blue scrubs required

Requirements

• Active NY RN license required
• Minimum 1 year of psychiatric nursing experience required
• Certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS are required
• Completion of de-escalation or crisis management training (Handle with Care, TRUST Training, CPI, PMCS, or MOAB) prior to start
• Experience with IM injections and administration of psychotropic medications
• Ability to identify major cardiac rhythms during code situations
• No first-time travelers accepted; must not hold part-time or second jobs

Additional Information

• Provide care for patients with complex psychiatric and behavioral needs who are typically medically stable
• Daily responsibilities include medication administration (IM and PO), monitoring for crisis situations, and early intervention
• PCTs provide phlebotomy, EKGs, 1:1 observation, and patient transport
• Full in-house security is present 24/7
• Medical and psychiatric physician support available on all shifts
• Rotating holiday coverage may be required
• Orientation includes several floor-specific training days
• All time-off (RTO) must be requested prior to contract start and will not be considered afterward
