American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg RN with active IL license and strong clinical skills for a dayshift position at a Level I trauma, Magnet hospital.

Details

• Work in the Medical Surgical unit of an acute care, Level I trauma, Magnet hospital
• Patient population includes general med/surg cases with neurological, psychiatric, and respiratory needs
• Average daily census is 21 patients
• Day shifts are available as 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts, from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM
• Every other weekend work is required
• Floating within scope to other hospital units or nearby affiliate hospitals is required
• No on-call responsibilities
• Cerner EMR is used; experience preferred

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required at the time of application; pending licenses not accepted
• Current BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross only; RQI not accepted)
• ACLS preferred
• Minimum of 1 year of Med/Surg or MS/Tele experience required
• IV therapy and phlebotomy skills, including port access, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, PICC management, and starting IVs
• Experience with medication administration including heparin, insulin, and PCA
• Competence in CVA case management, wound care/wound vac, and isolation precautions
• Experience with chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, non-invasive airway management, trach management, and related respiratory interventions
• Cerner charting system experience is preferred
• Cannot have been a permanent or PRN employee of this health system within the past 12 months

• Responsibilities include med/surg nursing care of diverse patient population with frequent neurological and respiratory cases
• Collaboration with an integrated interdisciplinary team in a teaching hospital environment
• First-time travelers are welcomed
• Orientation, lab appointment, and badge photo must be completed before start
• Must complete online modules virtually by end of first day and annually thereafter
• Parking permit provided at no cost upon orientation
• Scrubs may be any solid color
• RTO restrictions: Maximum 5 days of non-holiday requested time off approved automatically; more requires management approval
• Must be able to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Locals are accepted with no radius restriction
