Description

American Traveler is seeking a skilled RN for a new high-acuity PCU unit with telemetry and cardiac experience at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center.

Details

• Position is in a newly opened progressive care unit (PCU) within a hospital setting
• Unit specializes in high-acuity cardiac care including CHF, cardiomyopathy, arrhythmias, STEMI/NSTEMI, and post-cardiac procedures
• Responsible for 1:3-4 patient ratios initially, transitioning to 1:2-3 once the unit becomes ICU
• 12-hour day shifts (0630-1900) with every other weekend rotation
• Required to work 50% of holidays during the contract period
• Floating may occur to units within RN scope and lower-acuity settings; travelers are included in float rotation
• Uses Epic EMR; experience preferred
• Alaris IV pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing systems are used
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• Newly opened unit will transition from PCU to ICU by end of 2026; travelers will be expected to care for vented patients and fresh open hearts after transition

Requirements

• Active NC or Compact RN license required
• Minimum of 2 years recent ICU or PCU experience; CVICU experience preferred
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Swanz and Impella experience required
• General ICU skills required including wound care, defibrillation, EKG interpretation, post-arrest, and sheaths management
• Proficiency with BiPAP/CPAP/high flow, chest tubes, art lines, all drips (pressors, cardiac, sedation, etc.)
• Willingness and ability to care for vented patients and fresh open hearts once unit transitions to ICU
• Highly preferred: LVAD and post-cardiac transplant experience; training available if needed
• Experience with Epic charting system preferred

Additional Information

• Work within a collaborative team including charge RN, CNA, respiratory therapist, resource nurse, hospitalist, intensivist, and resident physicians
• Remote tele-techs support cardiac monitoring and communicate directly with RNs
• Phlebotomy and PICC teams provide support
• Two orientation shifts on hired unit following NEO
• Royal blue scrubs required
• Free parking available
• First-time travelers are accepted
• Self-scheduling with staff having first sign-up preference, followed by travelers
• Manager approval required for requested time off
