Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit Float Pool position, requiring prior travel experience and proficiency in neuro assessments and basic cardiac drips.

Details

• Work in a hospital setting floating between PCU, telemetry, medical, and surgical units as needed
• Patient populations include neuro (stroke), cardiac (chest pain, arrhythmias), and a range of medical and surgical diagnoses
• Care for patients with stroke, chest pain, arrhythmias, post-surgical recovery, altered mental status, dehydration, GI hemorrhage, and respiratory failure
• PCU nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:4, occasionally up to 1:5; med/surg ratios 1:5, rarely 1:6
• Use and titrate intravenous drips such as cardizem, amiodarone, and heparin
• Familiarity with equipment including CPAP and high flow oxygen delivery is required
• Must be able to perform and interpret EKGs and notify physicians of changes
• Uses Epic EMR; prior Epic experience required
• Night shift schedule from 7pm–7am for 12-hour shifts
• Minimum of 4 weekend shifts required in a 6-week schedule period
• No on-call requirements for this position

Requirements

• Active VA or compact RN license in hand
• Current AHA BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
• 1–2 years of nursing experience with proficiency in neuro assessments and managing basic cardiac drips
• Must have experience with cardizem, amiodarone, and heparin drips
• Must be able to read and interpret ECG/telemetry strips and pass an ECG exam
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Prior experience with Epic EMR is required

Additional Information

• Float to various PCU and med/surg units, flexing to patient care needs and potentially working in a different unit each shift
• Perform neuro and cardiac nursing assessments, titrate drips as needed, and monitor complex patients
• Expected to be flexible with scheduling to meet hospital needs
• Three shifts of orientation on different units plus general facility orientation provided
• Navy scrubs required
• Opportunity for overtime may be available
• Support staff such as nurse aides and secretaries are present on some units
• Holiday coverage may be required based on unit needs
