American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring a NC or compact license, strong telemetry skills, and ACLS/BLS certification.

Details

• Work in a mixed acuity Progressive Care Unit with both PCU and Med-Surg/Telemetry patients
• Patient population includes COPD, pneumonia, acute respiratory failure, respiratory distress, chest tubes, COVID-19, FLU, PE, and chronic trach/ventilated patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:4-5, with a maximum of 1:6 in extreme situations
• Unit has 48 beds, team lead present, and CNAs with 9-10:1 ratios
• Required to work 12-hour day shifts (6:45 - 19:15), including 4 weekend shifts per 6 weeks (or as staffing needs require)
• Block scheduling may be accommodated based on unit needs
• Floating required to similar units and potentially to affiliate hospital units
• Specialized equipment includes telemetry, IVs, vents, trachs, CPAP/BiPAP, chest tubes, dopamine, Cardizem, and heparin drips
• Unit uses Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR for charting
• Unit orientation consists of 24 hours

Requirements

• Active NC or compact state RN license required at time of start
• Minimum of 2 years recent nursing experience
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
• First-time travelers are accepted
• Experience with IV starts, ventilators, telemetry, CPAP/BiPAP, and management of dysrhythmias required
• Epic charting experience required
• Must successfully pass EKG testing prior to start
• Preferred: NIHSS certification

Additional Information

• Care includes management of high-acuity respiratory and cardiac patients with continuous monitoring
• Support resources include an admission/discharge nurse, assistant nurse manager, vascular access team, RRT, code team, and behavioral health team
• Scrub colors are white or navy blue
• Must be flexible to float within the hospital or to affiliate facilities as needed
• First week of assignment is designated for orientation and RTO is not permitted during this period
• No more than 7 days of RTO allowed, and no RTO will be approved for holidays
• Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Travel pairs are allowed but must work on separate units
• Past employees must wait at least 12 months before returning as travelers
• Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted at a different pay rate
• Candidate fatigue policy prohibits working more than 5 consecutive days or more than 60 hours in a week
