American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg Float Pool RN with at least 18 months of recent experience and Cerner or Epic proficiency.

• Position is based in a large hospital with multiple adult Med/Surg units, including trauma, neuroscience, oncology, orthopedics, urology, and clinical decision units
• Float pool assignment with home unit designated on first day of orientation
• Patient ratios generally range from 1:5 to 1:6 depending on unit
• Specialized patient populations include trauma, surgery, CVA/TBI, oncology, orthopedics, and urology
• Travelers float between like units and may assist with task-based assignments in related areas
• Weekend rotation required: every other weekend or four weekend days per month
• No on-call responsibilities
• Holiday coverage required per facility policy
• EMR is Cerner (preferred); Epic experience also acceptable
• Tele monitoring performed by tele techs; RNs must interpret and confirm tele strips every four hours

Requirements

• Active AL or compact RN license
• Minimum 18 months of recent Med/Surg experience required
• Prior experience with Cerner or Epic EMR required
• BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• At least 1 year of trauma/surgical Med/Surg experience required for some units
• Strong skills in wound care, chest tubes, NGT/PEG, IV skills, and medication administration/documentation
• Must reside outside a 60-mile radius from the facility to be eligible
• Former permanent staff must have been separated for at least 6 months before returning as a traveler

Additional Information

• Specialized skills may be required for specific units, including trach care, blood draws from central lines, chemotherapy administration (if certified), and use of negative pressure wound therapy
• Support staff on units includes CNAs, phlebotomy, IV team, charge nurse, and hospitalists
• 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on-unit orientation provided for first-time and returning travelers after 1+ year
• Travelers expected to wear any color scrubs
• Parking available in facility's parking deck on levels two through four
• Blackout dates apply for certain holidays and facility-specific events per RTO policy
• First-time travelers are accepted if qualified
