American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position at an academic Level 1 trauma center with Epic charting and strong Med/Surg Telemetry background required.

Details

• Work in a 24-bed Med/Surg unit at a teaching hospital with Level 1 trauma designation
• Patient population includes general medicine diagnoses such as DM, GI, respiratory, renal, wounds, chest tubes, tracheostomies, and lab draws
• RN to patient ratios are typically 5-6:1
• Shift times are 0700-1900 or 1830-0630 with every other weekend rotation
• Holiday coverage requires working 75% of assigned holidays
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• Floating to other Med/Surg units is required
• Technology includes Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing
• Centralized telemetry monitoring is used

Requirements

• Active RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg Telemetry nursing experience required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification required for Resource Team
• Ability to read telemetry strips and manage chest tubes, tracheostomies, PIV starts, drains and tubes, PCA pumps, and IV gtts such as Amiodarone, Fentanyl, Ketamine, and Heparin
• Applicant must have strong interpersonal and communication skills and be able to tolerate moderate to high stress levels
• Experience with Epic EMR required

• Provide direct and indirect nursing care for medical-surgical patients including complex wound and respiratory management
• Work collaboratively with CNAs, receptionists, charge nurses, phlebotomy, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist support
• Receive new employee orientation and two days of departmental training
• Team-oriented unit culture focused on patient centered care and strong teamwork
• Royal blue scrubs are required

• First-time travelers may be considered depending on strength of Med/Surg Telemetry background
• All RTO must be manager approved
