American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Adult Inpatient Psychiatric unit, requiring a Massachusetts RN license and recent inpatient adult psych experience.

Details

• Position is for a 30-bed adult inpatient psychiatric unit treating patients aged 18-65
• Patient diagnoses include anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and dual diagnosis with detox
• Unit also cares for some medically acute patients needing IVs, CPAPs, wound care, and diabetic management
• Clinician-to-patient ratio is 1 RN to 7-8 patients
• Night shift hours are 7:00pm – 7:30am, with every other weekend required
• Floating to other units is required
• Uses EPIC for electronic charting
• Proficiency with Omni Cell medication dispensing system required

Requirements

• Active Massachusetts RN license required; conditional licenses are not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of recent inpatient adult psychiatric nursing experience required
• AHA BLS certification required
• Certification in De-escalation is required
• Proficiency in the use of psychotropic medications and management of side effects
• Competency with IV pumps and diabetic care required
• Experience completing psychiatric admissions and discharges required
• Must complete primary COVID-19 vaccination series with no exemptions permitted
• Flu vaccination required during the season
• Knowledge of Massachusetts Department of Mental Health rules and patient rights required

Additional Information

• Responsible for comprehensive care of adult psychiatric patients, including detox management and addressing co-occurring medical needs
• Expected to assume charge nurse duties and complete admissions and discharges
• On-site AVADE and lead EKG training provided
• Understanding of legal issues related to guardianship, healthcare proxy, and court-ordered medication is necessary
• Professional dress code; scrub details will be provided upon assignment
• Local candidates must live at least 60 miles from Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston
• No medical or religious exemptions for COVID-19 vaccination are allowed
• RTO (requested time off) must be provided at time of consideration
• First time travelers will not be considered
