American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg, Tele, and PCU Float Pool position requiring at least 2 years of acute care experience and strong telemetry and titration skills.

• Work in an acute care hospital setting as part of the Med/Surg, Telemetry, and Progressive Care/Stepdown Float Pool
• Float between MedSurg, Telemetry, and PCU units across two hospital campuses, including inpatient holds in the ED
• Patient population includes geriatric, orthopedic, post-cardiac cath, post-MI, and CABG post-op patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: PCU 1:4, MedSurg/Tele 1:5-6
• Travelers are typically first to float and scheduling flexibility is required
• Monitor techs support telemetry and strip monitoring, but nurses must interpret cardiac strips independently
• Equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high flow oxygen in PCU, and CPAP/BiPAP at night in MedSurg
• Cerner EMR is used; previous experience preferred but not required
• 12-hour day shifts, 7am–7pm, with every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage is shared with permanent staff and no on-call requirement

Requirements

• Active RN license (State or Compact/NLC) required prior to consideration
• Minimum 2 years of acute care RN experience, including at least 1 year in a PCU setting
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Must be proficient in titrating and managing drips such as Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin
• Ability to interpret telemetry strips required
• Must pass the Relias dysrhythmia exam with a score of 80% or higher within two attempts before contract signing
• Must not have been employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit facility in the past year
• Permanent residence must be at least 50 miles from the facility
• Driver’s license must be provided for address verification
• Two references required: one supervisor from last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years

• Daily responsibilities include managing complex medical, surgical, and telemetry patients and titrating drips as needed
• Team includes dedicated charge nurses who do not take patient assignments and nurse aides in all settings
• Orientation includes one 8-hour general session and two 12-hour clinical shifts (Med/Tele and PCU)
• Must wear solid color professional scrubs; navy scrubs required starting in October
• Travelers are included in the regular clinical rotation for holiday coverage
• Unit assignments are communicated via text up to two hours before each shift, and flexibility is essential due to two-campus coverage
• Failing the Relias dysrhythmia exam twice makes candidates ineligible for CommonSpirit roles in AZ or Sacramento for 6 months
