American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position requiring neuro surgery experience and the ability to respond during hurricane emergencies.

Details

• Work in a major trauma Med/Surg unit with a neuro and ortho trauma focus
• Patient population includes multi-trauma, TBI, stroke, sepsis, post-neuro surgery, and ortho trauma cases
• Daily procedures may include craniotomy, spinal fusions, ORIF, muscle flaps, skin grafts, amputations, and use of external fixators
• Utilizes specialized equipment such as traction, PCA pumps, chest tubes, wound vacs, central lines, and PEG/NG tubes
• Day shift position working 3x12 hour shifts from 6:45 to 19:15
• Floating required to all other inpatient units as needed

Requirements

• Active RN license (Compact or LA) in hand at time of application
• Must have at least 2 years of recent Med/Surg neuro/trauma experience
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification required
• Experience with blood product administration, PICC line management, starting IVs, pre/post neuro surgery, handling TBIs, and ortho trauma cases
• Skilled at managing surgical drains, chest tubes, and isolation precautions
• NURSYS report must be current and submitted with profile (within 4 weeks of submission date)
• Must live at least 65 miles from the facility; local travelers not accepted
• References from 2 managers or supervisors required for contract clearance (PDF format, Charge RNs not accepted)

Additional Information

• May be assigned to an Emergency Team during hurricane events with expectations for on-site presence or relief duties as needed
• Must be comfortable working in a hurricane-impacted region during hurricane season
• Holiday coverage required on a rotating basis, every other holiday
• No guaranteed schedule requests; must have flexible availability
• Must have all requested time off (RTO) listed on profile and discussed during interview or risk offer being rescinded
• Orientation provided five days a week
• Previous employees or in-house agency contractors must be separated from the health system for at least one year before returning as travelers
