National Medical Surgical Nurses Week November 1 - 7
Medical Surgical Nurses Week is the perfect time to honor these RNs who truly do it all -- and a little bit more.
This month, we take a week to honor a group of nurses who are the backbone of the healthcare system: medical-surgical
nurses! These professionals, the largest group of specialty RNs, are integral to providing a high standard of
specialized medical care in hospitals and healthcare institutions nationwide. Most patients who have been admitted to
the hospital were treated by a med-surg nurse at some point.
Over the past few years, Med-Surg nurses have only reinforced the importance of their role in patient care. In part,
because of the breadth of their skill set, Med/Surg nurses have been called upon to support, and lead, treatment efforts
in hospitals under extreme pressure.
These nurses are skilled in a wide variety of specialized areas, including:
- AIDS/HIV
- Asthma
- Cardiovascular care
- Endocrine disorders
- Gastrointestinal care
- Nutritional education
- Geriatrics
- Hematology/oncology
- Infection treatments
- Military nursing
- Musculoskeletal disorders
- Neurological disorders
- Wound care
