Sarcoidosis Inspires RN to Shift Career Focus

Boca Raton, FL April 2, 2008

travel nurse consultant Dashing to high risk deliveries and pushing isolettes was no longer an option for Cathy Trumbull, RN. After being diagnosed with Pulmonary and Osteo Sarcoidosis six years ago, the physical challenges of NICU nursing became increasingly hard to endure.

Cathy did not permit her condition get in the way of her nursing career, or from helping others cope with this debilitating malady. Transitioning her hospital nursing position to a corporate Clinical Coordinator for American Traveler in 2002, Cathy utilizes her 20 years of NICU nurse expertise to support, guide and nurture successful travel nurse careers as a liaison to high ranking Children's hospitals. More nurse professionals like Cathy, who, for a number of reasons choose to leave hospital nursing, have found making the switch to healthcare staffing with American Traveler a viable and rewarding career move.

In addition to her numerous professional achievements at American Traveler, Cathy has formed the East Tennessee Sarcoidosis Support Group (ETSSG) and is involved in a national Sarcoidosis research project spearheaded by Dr. Wonder Drake at Vanderbilt University as part of a unified effort to one day beat this incurable disease.

Cathy's diligence in the field, and her work with the ETSSG, had led to Dr. Wonder Drake to visit East Tennessee this April to present an update to Sarcoidians and Physicians on the remarkable research underway at Vanderbilt University. An expert at scheduling interviews for travel nursing professionals, Cathy utilized her corporate acquired expertise to arrange a news interview with Dr. Drake to be aired on the nationally syndicated Dr. Bob Show, a finalist for the prestigious 2007 Telly Awards.

"Nurse's are often ideal people to start a medical support group due to their professional and personal background and their strong desire to help those in need. The ETSSG has been a great opportunity and it has been rewarding on many levels. Additional information on Sarcoidosis can be found on the www.stopsarcoidosis.com website." - Cathy Trumbull, RN.
