American Traveler is seeking an experienced IR RN for a night shift position at a Level II Trauma acute care hospital in the Bronx, NY, requiring ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications and at least 1 year of IR experience.

• Work setting is an acute care hospital Interventional Radiology department, Level II Trauma
• The IR department operates 1 IR room, with access to a Cath Lab on the 8th floor for vascular procedures; travel between both units may occur within the same day
• Department is staffed by 7 RNs with roles including special procedures, breast biopsies, ultrasound (thyroid needle aspiration), CT/MRI scan preps, IV starts, and patient monitoring
• Average caseload includes 5–8 IR procedures per day plus CT prep and IV starts for approximately 50 patients per day
• Common procedures include complex vascular interventions (embolizations, thrombectomies for PE and DVT using INARI or EKOS systems), biopsies (breast, CT-guided, US-guided), drain placements (abscesses, pleural effusions, paracentesis), spinal and joint pain injections, and line placements (PICCs, ports, permcaths, tunneled catheters)
• Patient population includes both pediatric and adult patients requiring sedation, oral preps, and monitoring
• Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (12-hour shifts) with 1-hour lunch and two 15-minute breaks
• Day shift availability also exists (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM); travelers are asked to remain flexible and fill gaps in permanent staff scheduling
• Charting system: Allscripts (EMR); some paper charting is also used depending on modality and procedure
• No on-call requirements; 2 permanent RNs are on staff overnight and on weekends
• Floating is limited to the Cath Lab for IR-specific cases only; general floating is not required
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active NY RN license required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and PALS (PALS is mandatory; pediatric experience is not required)
• Minimum 1 year of IR nursing experience required
• Proficiency in IV starts required
• Allscripts EMR experience preferred
• BSN is not required

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include patient assessment and charting via the Radiology Flowsheet, patient management across all three phases of procedures (pre, intra, and post), IV insertions, CT preps for scheduled patients, and communication with physicians and mid-level providers regarding plan of care
• Critical care exposure or experience is considered a bonus
• An IR Radiology tech (CST) is paired with the physician; charge nurse coordinates and manages the daily calendar and may assist with patients as needed
• After 5:00 PM, the IR Chair is on-call; an additional MD is in-house during daytime hours
• Orientation consists of 3 shifts, with the manager evaluating whether additional support is needed
• Holidays are covered by permanent staff
• Scrub color: Royal Blue; surgical scrubs or disposables may be worn when working in the Cath Lab
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Excessive call-ins are taken seriously and may result in termination
