Job Description:

The PACU Registered Nurse is an integral part of the post-operative care unit. He or she will care for patients after surgery, and must demonstrate advanced knowledge of anesthesiology. PACU nurses have critical care and critical thinking skills and will assess, and will assess the incision site, body temperature and other indicators of stability and/or complications. It is very important for PACU to make make their own critical assessments of patients quickly as the doctor on call may be unavailable during an emergency. The ideal travel nursing candidate has excellent critical thinking skills, and history of fast and accurate diagnoses. The PACU R.N. is responsible for waking patients in post-op, and knowing what to do in the event of a cardiac emergency. Past experience in post-anesthesia care and surgical nursing is a plus
