Job Description:

The Dialysis Registered Nurse focuses on conditions of the kidney and renal system, and must understand how dialysis imitates the primary functions of the kidney for patients in acute or chronic kidney failure. The Dialysis RN provides individualized care to renal patients, ensuring that dialysis equipment is working properly. The ideal nursing job candidate must be able to consult with doctors regarding a patient's overall treatment plan, lab values and physical and mental condition, as well as alert the physician and dialysis team, should the patient's condition change in any way. Providing motivation to the patient, along with educating on healthy lifestyles and disease management is a major component of this job. Most dialysis units have extensive training programs for new nurses and travel nurses. It is preferable to have several years of nursing experience before pursuing this specialization.
