| MP Spends Day With Nurses - 'Backbone of Our NHS' |

DURHAM Labour MP Roberta BlackmanWoods spent a day finding out what life is like at the frontline of the NHS.To mark International Nurses Day, which is on Monday - the birthday of famous nurse Florence Nightingale - she visited the University Hospital of North Durham, in Durham City, which was built to replace Dryburn Hospital under a private finance initiative.Laura Robson, director of nursing at the County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, said the day was an "excellent opportunity to support the annual event, and also to help provide a real-life view of nursing - the diverse roles which are now required, the challenges we face, as well as the rewarding nature of the work."

CRNBC President Karen Irving and I have both written recently in Nursing BC about the many changes our organization has experienced since coming under the Health Professions Act. In Ontario, the only province/ territory with a standalone nursing association, the Registered Nurses Association states its mission as "We represent the nursing profession in Ontario, speaking out for health and speaking out for nursing." To date, only the Gerontological Nurses PPG has severed its relationship with CRNBC and it is reforming under the Society Act of B.C.
